I am an experienced support analyst with a wide range of skills in computing and electronics. My business knowledge has been built up through working with customers in the printing, publishing, engineering pharmaceutical, transport industries, local government, insurance and most recently in manufacturing. My hardware skills were gained initially as a field service engineer.

 

I have an NT 4 MCSE and was one of the first qualified in 2001 for a Windows 2000 MCSE. My skills include configuration and administration of all versions of Windows, Novell 4 and earlier versions; Office applications; Network hardware and protocols; Mail systems; SQL Enterprise administration; BackupExec, Arcserve and Legato backup systems; printer administration; SMS administration. Hardware server builds using Compaq / HP Smartstart and Array Configuration utilities

 

Since 2007 I have been supporting the world wide operations for Herman Miller at their International Headquarters and showroom based in Chippenham.

Herman Miller is a global company manufacturing high quality office furniture with manufacturing facilities in the US, China and in the UK in Bath and Chippenham.

2004-2005                    AXA Technology, Spectrum House, Bond Street Bristol

3rd line and Infrastructure support responsible for  day to day support of the AXA’s 1200 plus servers based in three main datacentres and also branch offices.  The server infrastructure supported around 20000 people. This included administration and installation of most server roles including multiple 4 node clusters based on Windows Server 2003 and VMWare GSX servers based on Linux. In addition a large number of Blade server arrays based on IBM and Windows Server 2003 were managed remotely.

 

2002-2004                    Bath and North East Somerset Council. High Street BATH

3rd line and Infrastructure support responsible for  day to day support of the Council’s 80 plus Windows servers spread across the county.  The server infrastructure supported around 3000 people including certain requirements for libraries and schools. This included administration and installation of most server roles including Active Directory, policies and profiles; Citrix; Smartfilter web filtering and Proxy; VPN and dial-in remote access; DNS, DHCP, WINS infrastructure; Norton Antivirus, SQL 2000, Applications servers, File servers  and remote printing. A server replacement policy was in place such that we regularly built replacement servers using HP Smartstart

 

                                      I was also particularly involved with the Agresso Financial Management system which makes heavy use of SQL 2000 and SAN technology.

                                      IT Manager supporting 80 staff carrying out research and development work on drug delivery systems for the pharmaceutical industry.

                                      Support and administration of Windows 2000 and NT4 servers and workstations. Support of pharmaceutical analysis systems.

 

1999 – 2001                 London Underground Ltd. Telstar House, Eastbourne Terrace, London

IT Manager responsible for IT support for the teams carrying out the long-term renovation of the Central Line and the Northern Line.

1st, 2nd and 3rd line support of 400 users.

1995 – 1999                 Kvaerner Process (UK) Ltd. 20 Eastbourne Terrace, London.

                                      Kvaerner is a worldwide engineering and construction company. The Kvaerner Process division designs and builds plant for the chemical, pharmaceutical and oil and gas industries.

Supported 800 users in the London offices with about 2,500 in the UK. First line support including Windows, MS Office, Autocad, Unix, Plotting systems, Novell and Microsoft servers and 130 networked printers. Support of specialised engineering applications.

Administration, support and rollout via SMS of Windows NT 4.

Second and third line support of the servers.

Migration of users and data to new servers and to a roaming Windows desktop.

Worked closely with the communications department as part of a small team of four switching the 28 floor office TCP/IP network from an FDDI ring to a flat ATM based network.

Managed a helpdesk team of seven for six months whilst a permanent appointment was recruited.

 

1994 – 1995                 John Brown E&C, Portsmouth

                                      This was the Portsmouth office of Kvaerner Process (UK).

During my time here I covered most aspects of I.T as a member of the helpdesk team for eight months supporting Windows 3.1 / DOS and the Microsoft Office suite, WordPerfect, engineering and financial applications.

                                      Set up a PCNFS network linking Elonex PCs in to the Xerox network for Technical Document Production.

 

1994                              Dixons/ Mastercare, Stevenage

                                      This involved hardware and software faultfinding on most computers sold by Dixons at the time including IBM, Compaq, Apple and Amstrad.

Responsible for all product testing of European versions of Ventura Publisher and associated products. Also responsible for network administration and support.

Systems Specialist providing specialist knowledge of the publishing industry for producing 25 translated versions of Ventura Publisher, the desktop publishing package, and associated products.

Pre and Post Sales support, Field Service Engineer throughout Europe for phototypesetting computer equipment.

Started as an apprentice and worked with early 4040 microprocessor at research labs. Commissioned the Scottish Air Traffic Control Centre in Prestwick using multiple networked computers.
